Community Ambassador - Volunteer - Open

GURLSociety is seeking applicants for Community Ambassador positions to serve as a public advocate for women and young girls by meeting, presenting, and serving as a local representative for GURLSociety. This leadership position is ideal for those with an interest in furthering GURLScoiety???s mission within their local community. The ambassadors will work closely with the GURLSociety Public Relations Director, , and/or Other staff, as appropriate. GURLSociety is a membership-based not for profit organization created for the purpose of empowering young girls and women. We focus on sisterhood, leadership, community service, education, mentorship, and personal development. Responsibilities: Assist GURLSociety staff in serving as a public advocate for women and young girls including: + Develop new connections and utilize established connection channels to communicate needs and stay current on GURLSociety programs and messaging. + Educate your community about GURLSociety resources + Identify opportunities for GURLSociety and your community to collaborate. + Recruit and refer prospective volunteers and volunteer groups to GURLSociety that represent the volunteer needs within the organization. + Represent GURLSociety at: o Key City Council Meetings o Businesses, Civic Organizations, and Nonprofits o Community Outreach Booths o Local Events/Festivals o Local Media Qualifications: + Passionate for the GURLSociety Mission + Comfortable building relationships with local government and/or community leaders + Thoroughly knowledgeable of GURLSociety (training is available) + Comfortable in a leadership role + Willing to train and involve other volunteers Details: Various hours per week for a period of six months to a year beginning as soon as possible. Locations: Preference is for the ambassador to be based in Los Angeles County. Ambassadors in this location will work directly with GURLSociety staff and will be involved in local communications. The position is also open to an ambassador based in other parts of the United States, who would receive training and regular contact with staff via phone and email. Community Outreach Coordinator - Volunteer - Open

GURLSociety is seeking applicants for Community Outreach Coordinator position to build strategic relationships within the community and conduct a variety of outreach activities. The Community Outreach Coordinator will work closely with the GURLSociety Public Relations Director, Ambassadors, and/or Other staff, as appropriate. GURLSociety is a membership-based not for profit organization created for empowering young girls and women. We focus on sisterhood, leadership, community service, education, mentorship, and personal development. Responsibilities: + Creates an annual outreach plan + Develops plan to recruit, train, and utilize volunteers + Schedules outreach presentations in the community and communicates with staff regarding coverage and responsibilities. + Develops outreach materials and packets. + Maintains relationships with collaborative partners and cultivate new ones. + Assists in the coordination of special events + Attends relevant community meetings; participate in relevant councils and committees. Qualifications: + Excellent written and presentation communication skills + High level attention to detail and organization skills + Ability to manage multiple projects + Outgoing and engaging personality with confidence to interact face to face with individual + Knowledge and experience with social media platforms and websites + Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports on development and outreach activities, to track and assess progress and address program deficiencies as they occur. Details: Various hours per week for a period of one to two years beginning as soon as possible. Locations: Preference is for the Community Outreach Coordinator to be based in Long Beach,CA. Social Media Ambassador - Open

GURLSociety seeks applicants for Social Media Ambassador positions to support and strengthen our social media presence and online communications. Social Media Ambassador will manage GURLSociety's Facebook and Twitter accounts, create content for GURLSociety’s website, and expand our use of these networks as organizing tools. The ambassador will work closely with the GURLSociety Public Relations Director, , and/or Other staff, as appropriate.

Responsibilities: Assist GURLSociety staff in maintaining and strengthening GURLSociety’s online communications and social media presence, including:

  • Regular posting to Facebook and Twitter on behalf of GURLSociety.
  • Using social media tools to build GURLSociey’s base of women and young girls, as well as developing relationships with ally organizations, journalists and legislators.
  • Creating graphics for use on social media.
  • Creating content for GURLSociety’s website, including writing and working with GURLSociety members to write blog posts.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in communications or social media management for non-profits.
  • Candidate works independently and has good planning skills, time management, and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Candidate should have strong oral communication as well as writing/editing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Windows
  • Basic graphic design a plus.

 

Details: 8-10 hours per week for a period of six months to a year beginning as soon as possible.

 

Locations: Preference is for the ambassador to be based in  Los Angeles County. Ambassadors in this location will work directly withGURLSociety staff and may be involved in local communications. The position is also open to an ambassador based in other parts of the United States, who would receive training and regular contact with staff via phone and email. For ambassadors based outside of chapter cities, preference is for at least two year of experience managing social media.
